Ritual washing in Judaism is a special kind of washing. It is called a “mikvah” or “mikveh.” It is a special pool of water that people go to in order to be cleansed, or purified. It is similar to taking a bath, but for the purpose of making a person spiritually clean. It is part of a religious tradition that goes back thousands of years. People of the Jewish faith (or Jews) use the mikvah to purify themselves before important religious events like marriage, childbirth and the weekly Sabbath. Taking a dip in the mikvah is like starting fresh, making a new beginning.
