Roasting (metallurgy)

Well kiddo, have you ever toasted a marshmallow over a fire? That's kind of like what roasting is but with metal instead of marshmallows.

So, metal that comes right out of the ground has other things mixed in with it that make it weak and not as useful. Just like how marshmallows straight out of the bag aren't as tasty as when they're roasted.

So, to make the metal strong, people roast it. They put the metal in a really hot oven called a furnace and cook it until it gets hot enough to melt. Then, they add special things to it like charcoal or other minerals that help make it better.

After that, they take it out of the furnace and let it cool down. The metal is now strong and can be used to make things like cars, buildings, and even toys!

So, roasting is like cooking the metal to make it stronger and more useful, kind of like roasting marshmallows to make them more tasty.
