ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Romance plurals

Okay kiddo, so when you have more than one thing, you usually add an "s" to the end of the word, right? Like two dogs or three cats.

But with some words, like "romance" which means love and attraction between people, you don't add an "s" to make it plural. Instead, you use a different word to show that there's more than one romance happening.

So if you have two people who are in love with each other, you wouldn't say they have two romances. You would say they have a romance or they are in a romance.

But if there are multiple couples or relationships happening at the same time, you could say there are several romances happening or that there are many romances to keep track of.

So, while "romances" might sound like the plural form of "romance," it's actually incorrect. Always remember, when it comes to love, there's no "s" at the end of romance!
