ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rupert Gould

Rupert Gould was a man who really liked clocks and watches. He was born a long time ago in the year 1890. When he was older, he became very interested in fixing old clocks and watches, especially ones that were broken and nobody else could fix.

One day, he learned about a very old clock called the Marine Chronometer, which was used by sailors a long time ago to know where they were when they were out at sea. The Marine Chronometer was special because it was very accurate, meaning it didn't make mistakes and always told the right time.

But nobody knew how to fix the Marine Chronometer anymore, and people thought it was only good for being put in a museum. Rupert Gould really wanted to fix it, so he spent a long time studying and experimenting until he finally figured out how to make it work again.

When Rupert Gould fixed the Marine Chronometer, it was a really big deal. He became famous for being able to do something that nobody else could do. He even wrote a book about it so that other people who were interested in clocks could learn from what he did.

In the end, Rupert Gould became a very respected person in the world of clock fixing, and he inspired many people to appreciate old clocks and watches as pieces of history worth preserving.
