ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Russification

Russification is when a government makes changes to its language and culture, so they are more like the Russian language and culture. This happened in many places in Eastern Europe, beginning in the late 1800s. For example, in some places people were forced to learn Russian, the Russian government changed the names of streets, towns, and cities to Russian names, and they changed their laws to be like the Russian laws. This was so the Russian government could control the people in these countries and make them more like the Russians.
