ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sail boat

A sailboat is like a special kind of boat that uses big pieces of cloth called "sails" to catch the wind and make it move. It's like holding up a big kite and letting the wind pull you along in the water.

There are different parts of a sailboat that help it work like the "rudder" which is like a steering wheel that makes the boat turn left or right, and the "keel" which is like a big fin that sticks down into the water to keep the boat from tipping over.

The sailors on the boat use special words to talk to each other like "port" which means left, and "starboard" which means right. They also have to be really careful not to let the wind push the boat too much and make it tip over, called "capsizing".

Sailboats can be different sizes, some are small enough for just one or two people to sail, and some are really big and can fit lots of people. People like to sail boats for fun or even to race against each other, and it's really cool to see how fast they can go!
