Sales taxes in Canada

Sales taxes are charges that are added to the things you buy. In Canada, some provinces have their own sales taxes, like the GST (goods and services tax) and the PST (provincial sales tax). These taxes are added to the price of the things you buy, so you end up paying more than the listed price. The taxes go to the government to help pay for things like roads, schools and other services.
