ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sanitization (classified information)

Sanitization is like cleaning your room, but for classified information. Just like you don't want your messy room to be seen by others, some information needs to be kept secret and safe. Sanitization means making sure that any important or secret information is removed or changed before sharing it with people who are not supposed to see it.

It's like playing a game of "I Spy" and your friend guesses the answer, but you don't want anyone else to know the answer, so you have to change the answer before telling someone else.

For example, if there is a secret document that talks about a special plan to protect the country, but it needs to be shared with other countries, the document needs to be sanitized first. This means that any information that could give away important details, like the names of key people involved or exact locations, are taken out or changed. This way, the information can be shared without giving away too many important details.

Just like cleaning your room makes it safer and more organized, sanitizing information makes it safer and more organized too. It helps to protect important information and keep it in the right hands.
