Scaremongering

Scaremongering is when someone tries to scare you about something by telling stories about how bad it is, even if there is no proof that it is really bad. For example, someone might say that there's lots of germs in the air, so you should carry a mask everywhere, even though there's no real evidence of any extra germs in the air. Basically, it's when someone tries to scare you into thinking something is a bigger problem than it really is.
