The Mars Exploration Rover Mission was a mission to explore the planet Mars, which is in our solar system. Scientists sent two robotic vehicles, called rovers, to Mars. The rovers, named Spirit and Opportunity, were sent to explore different areas of the planet, sending back pictures and data about what they found. The rovers were able to drive around on the Martian surface, taking pictures and collecting data about the rocks and soil. They could also use tools to dig into the Martian soil, finding out more about the planet. Scientists here on Earth can use the data and pictures that the rovers send back to learn more about what Mars is like, and whether it could be a good place for people to visit.
