Seamen's strike of 1922

In 1922, many people who worked on ships (called seamen) were upset because they weren't getting paid enough and they had to work too many hours without breaks. They said they wanted to go on strike, which means they wouldn't work until their bosses agreed to give them better pay and working conditions.

A strike is like when you refuse to play with your friends until they agree to give you a fair turn with the toys. But instead of toys, the seamen wanted fair pay and time to rest.

The seamen's strike of 1922 was a time when a lot of seamen all over the world decided to stop working until their bosses listened to their demands. This was bad news for the people who needed goods to be transported by ship, because nothing could be shipped without seamen to work on the ships.

Some people were worried that the strike would last a long time and the world would run out of essential supplies, like food and medicine. Eventually, after a few months, the seamen's bosses agreed to give them better pay and conditions, and the strike ended.

This meant that the seamen could go back to work, and the world could start shipping again. It also meant that the seamen had stood up for their rights and made a difference in their own lives.
