ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Secular republic

Okay kiddo, imagine we are playing with some toys and we decide to make our own little world. We need someone to decide what rules we're going to follow and keep everyone in line, right?

In a secular republic, imagine we pick one person to do that job, but they can't use religion to make rules. What does that mean? Well, some people believe in different religions or gods, and we need everyone to feel like they can be a part of our world, so we can't base all of our rules on just one religion or god.

Our leader has to be fair to everyone, no matter what they believe, so they can guide us to make good choices and keep our world running smoothly. Just like how a parent makes rules for their family, our leader makes rules for our mock world.

In a secular republic, everyone is treated equally, no matter what they believe or worship. So, we can all play together and have fun without fighting or picking sides. Sounds good, right?
