ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Seismic communication

Seismic communication is when animals use vibrations to communicate with each other. Imagine a bunch of ants sitting on the ground and one of them tapping their back legs on the ground. This tapping sends vibrations through the ground to the other ants around them. These vibrations are like little messages telling the other ants what's going on or if there is danger nearby.

Other animals like elephants and whales also use seismic communication to talk to each other. They make low-frequency sounds that create vibrations that can travel for very long distances through the ground or water. This is helpful for these animals because they might be too far away from each other to hear a normal sound, but they can feel the vibrations and understand what the other animal is saying.

Overall, seismic communication is a way for animals to talk to each other through vibrations. It's like sending a secret message through the ground or water that only certain animals can understand.
