ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Semantic unification

Semantic unification is a process of making sure that everyone understands the same thing when they use the same words. It's like when you go to school and the teacher tells everyone that a "pencil" is a writing tool made of wood, has an eraser on one end and a lead-filled tip on the other. This way, when someone in the classroom says the word "pencil", everyone knows what they are talking about. Semantic unification does this same thing but with computers. It makes sure that when computers use certain words, they all mean the same thing.
