The sensory system is your body's way of taking in information from your surroundings. It is made up of different parts that are really good at sensing things like sound, sight, taste, smell, and touch.
Sound travels through the air and into our ears. Our ears are really good at sensing the vibrations of sound.
Sight is all about seeing things. We have two eyes that take in light and then send that information to our brain.
Taste is when we put food or drink in our mouths and we can tell how it tastes. Special cells in our mouths sense the flavor and tell our brain about it.
Smell happens when we breathe in air and small particles from things around us. We have special cells in our nose that can pick up these particles and tell us what things smell like.
Touch is how we can feel things. We have special cells in our skin that can sense when things are soft or prickly or when we are hot or cold.
