ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Serial manipulator

A serial manipulator is like a toy robot arm that is made up of lots of pieces connected together like a chain. Each piece can bend in certain ways and can be controlled by a computer or a person using buttons and joysticks.

Imagine you have a long stick with joints in it - you can bend it and move it in different directions. A serial manipulator is like that stick, but it has lots of joints (called links) that can move in different directions too. Each joint is controlled by a motor and can move based on the commands it receives from a computer or a person.

So if you want the end of the robot arm to pick up a toy, you would control each joint to move in a specific way, like telling it to bend at a certain angle or to rotate in a certain direction. This allows the robot arm to move around and do different tasks, like putting things in boxes or assembling parts of a machine.

Overall, a serial manipulator is like a robot arm made up of lots of parts that can move in different ways and be controlled by a computer or a person. It's like a big toy, but it can be used for important jobs like manufacturing or medicine!
