Okay kiddo, today we are going to learn about something called the sex determination system. You know how boys and girls are different right? Well, this system helps decide if someone will be a boy or a girl.
When a baby is growing inside their mom's tummy, they start out with the same parts as both boys and girls. But after a little while, something happens that decides if they will be a boy or girl.
It all comes down to something called chromosomes, which are like tiny instructions inside our bodies that tell us how to grow and develop. Most people have 46 chromosomes in their body, 23 from their mom and 23 from their dad.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Girls usually have two X chromosomes, while boys have one X and one Y chromosome. So, if the baby gets an X chromosome from Mom and a Y chromosome from Dad, they will be a boy. But if they get two X chromosomes, they will be a girl.
Sometimes the sex determination system doesn't work like it's supposed to, and some people are born with variations that don't fit into just male or female categories. But no matter what, everyone is special and unique, and that's what makes us all special!
