Shadow banning

Okay kiddo, so imagine there's a place where people go to talk to each other online, and sometimes people say mean things or break the rules. Now, normally if someone does this, they might get kicked out of the group or their comments might get deleted.

But sometimes, instead of doing that, the people who run the group might decide to "shadow ban" them. This means that they can still see their own comments and posts, but nobody else can see them.

It's like they're invisible! They don't even know that they've been shadow banned, so they might keep posting things that nobody can see.

Now, the idea behind shadow banning is that it keeps things peaceful in the group. The person who broke the rules can still participate, but they can't ruin things for everyone else.

But some people think that shadow banning isn't fair, because it's kind of sneaky. If you don't know that you're shadow banned, you might think that nobody is interested in what you're saying and get frustrated.

So that's shadow banning, in a nutshell! Sometimes when people are mean online, they get shadow banned so they can't keep being mean.
