ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a group of countries that get together to have fun and make cool plans together. Imagine you have a group of friends, and you like to hang out, play games, and do stuff. That's what SCO does, but with countries instead of friends.

There are eight countries in this group - China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, India, and Pakistan. They all live in different parts of the world, but they like to work together and play together. Think of it like having eight friends from different countries who all hang out together.

SCO was formed in 2001 to help these countries work together more easily. They wanted to make sure that they can stop bad things from happening in their countries, like crime and terrorism, and also help each other out with trade, travel, and other things.

The cool thing about SCO is that they don't just work for themselves. They want to help other countries too. They have some special friends that they call 'observer countries' and 'dialogue partners.' These are countries that want to be friends with SCO, learn about their work, and maybe even join the group in the future.

So, in short, SCO is a group of eight countries that work together and play together. They help each other out, want to stop bad things from happening, and make friends with other countries too.
