ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shmita

Shmita is like when you play with your toys, but then stop playing with them for a whole year. It's a special time when farmers in Israel also stop working on their fields and let the land rest. This happens every seven years.

During Shmita, farmers also have to forgive debts and loans that other people owe them. It's like when you lend your friend a toy, but after a year you say, "Don't worry, you don't have to give it back anymore."

People also try to be more kind and giving during Shmita, just like how you might share your toys or snacks with your friends when they come to play.

Overall, Shmita is a time when people take a break, give back, and focus on being good to each other and the Earth.
