Sitdown strike

Okay, so if you go to school, you know about a thing called recess, right? It's time you get to play with your friends and relax. Imagine if during recess, you and your friends decided that you didn't want to play anymore because you felt that your teacher wasn't being fair to you. So, you all sat down together in the playground and refused to move.

Well, that's kind of what a sitdown strike is. It's when a group of workers all decide to stop working and instead, sit down together and refuse to move as a way to show their bosses that they're upset about something. This is usually because they're not being treated fairly or haven't been paid enough for their work.

Workers might choose to do a sitdown strike instead of a regular strike because it's less violent and noisy. And also, sometimes, it's harder for the boss to get new workers in because there's nobody to replace them if a lot of people suddenly stop working at once.

So, a sitdown strike is just like when you and your friends sit down on the playground to protest something you think is not fair. Except it's more serious, and grown-ups do it at work.
