Timeline of labour issues and events

Okay kiddo, let's talk about the timeline of labour issues and events.

A really long time ago, people used to work all day every day, even children! They didn't get paid very much and didn't have any say in how they were treated at work. This was called "unions," and they weren't very nice.

But then, people decided they wanted things to be better. They started to form unions to help workers have more rights, like getting paid more and working fewer hours.

One big event in the timeline was the Industrial Revolution. This happened a long time ago, and it was when machines were invented to help people do their work faster. This was good in some ways because it meant people could make more things, but it also meant that workers were expected to work even harder and longer hours. This made people really angry, and they started to protest and strike (which means they refused to work until they got what they wanted).

A famous strike happened in the late 1800s in America, called the Pullman Strike. Workers who made trains for the Pullman Palace Car Company went on strike because they were being paid very little and had to work long hours. This made it hard for people to travel, and the government got involved to try and stop the strike.

Another big event in the timeline was the creation of Labour Day, which happens on the first Monday in September. This day is a holiday to celebrate workers and all they do. It started in Canada and America in the late 1800s and is now a holiday in many countries around the world.

As time went on, workers continued to demand better conditions and more rights. Unions got stronger, and laws were created to protect workers. In some places, workers can also join a union to negotiate with their bosses for better pay and conditions.

So, in summary, people used to have to work hard all day every day with no rights, but then they started to protest and form unions to fight for better pay and working conditions. Events like the Industrial Revolution and famous strikes, like the Pullman Strike, helped to shape the timeline of labour issues and events. Now, workers have more rights and are celebrated on Labour Day, but there is still more that can be done to make sure everyone is treated fairly at work.
