ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Skiboarding

Skiboarding is a winter sport that involves sliding down snow-covered mountains or hills on very short skis. These skis are shorter than regular alpine skis, which makes them easier to turn and maneuver in tight spaces. Think about your regular skis as a long pencil, and skiboards as shorter crayons. Just like how you can draw much more complicated shapes with a crayon rather than a pencil, skiboards allow you to do more fun tricks and turns!

Skiboards, also known as snowblades, are generally around 60 to 120 centimeters long, which is about the same size as a skateboard or a pair of rollerblades. Because of their short size, they are easier to control and you can turn, stop, and jump more quickly than with regular skis.

To use skiboards, you need to have special bindings that hold your boots onto the skis. You wear the same kind of boots, or sometimes even your regular snowboard boots or ski boots. Then, you just slide down the slope and control your speed and direction with your body movements, weight distribution, and by carving the skis into the snow.

Skiboarding can be a lot of fun and is a great way to explore the mountain in a different way than regular skiing or snowboarding. It's a bit like dancing on the snow, pulling quick turns and doing tricks as if you were skating through the snow. With skiboards, you have a lot of freedom to move and enjoy the snow with more control and ease!
