ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Slow reading

Hi there!

Slow reading is when we read books or passages slower than usual. This can happen for many reasons, but it's not always a bad thing.

Sometimes, we read slowly because we want to make sure we understand what we are reading. This means we take time to read each word carefully, to see how they fit together to make a whole sentence. We might also stop and think about what a word means, or what the sentence is trying to say.

Other times, we read slowly because we find it difficult. This can be because the words are hard to understand, or because there are too many big words we don't know. It can also happen when we are tired or not feeling well, and it's hard to concentrate on what we are reading.

But don't worry! There are many ways to help us read better, and faster too! We can practice reading aloud, or read slowly and then go back over it again to make sure we understand it. We can also ask someone to explain any words we don't know, or look them up in a dictionary.

So, slow reading is when we take our time to understand what we are reading. And if we keep practicing, we'll become better and better at it!
