Smelting is like baking a cake, but instead of using ingredients like eggs and flour, we use ores and chemicals.
First, we take a big pot or furnace and heat it up really, really hot using fire. Then we put the ores, which are rocks that have metals in them, into the pot.
The heat from the fire makes the metal in the ores melt and turn into a liquid. We call this liquid metal 'melted metal'. There are many different kinds of metals like copper, iron, and gold which all have different colors and properties.
Once the metal is melted, we add some chemicals to it called flux. This helps to clean out any impurities like dirt or other types of rocks that are mixed in with the ore.
Finally, we let the melted metal cool down and harden. After it has cooled, we can take it out of the pot and use it to make different things like tools, cars, and even buildings!
So, smelting is like heating up rocks to melt the metal inside, cleaning it with chemicals, and then making things from the cooled-down metal.
