The social model is a way of thinking about how people with disabilities should be included in society. It looks at the barriers that exist in our communities that can make it harder for people living with a disability to take part in everyday life. These barriers can be things like physical barriers, like a building without a ramp and no lift or stairs, or attitudes and beliefs in society, like employers not giving people with disabilities a chance to apply for a job. The social model looks at how to remove these barriers, so people living with a disability can be a part of their community, at the same level as everyone else.
