ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Space habitat

A space habitat is like a special house where people can live in outer space! You know how you live in your house on Earth, and it has all the things you need – a bed, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a place to play? A space habitat is just like that, but it's built to protect people from the harsh environment of space.

Space is a very dangerous place to live in because there is no air, water, or a certain temperature. So, scientists build space habitats that have their own air, water, and temperature. The habitat is like a giant metal ball that has rooms inside it. The rooms have everything you would find in a house on Earth, and they are all connected by hallways that people can walk through.

The space habitat also has special things like machines to clean the air and recycle water. It has special walls that keep the air inside and special windows that let the people see the space outside. The walls are very thick to keep people safe from the radiation that comes from the sun and other stars.

To live in a space habitat, people have to be trained to do things differently than on Earth. They have to learn how to use special equipment to take a shower. They have to wear special suits when they go outside of the habitat to fix things or to explore.

Living in a space habitat is very exciting because you get to see things that most people on Earth never get to see. But it's also very dangerous, so the people who live in the habitat have to be really careful and always pay attention to the rules.
