ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Spaced armour

Okay kiddo, let me explain what spaced armor is! So imagine you have a toy tank that you want to protect from other toy tanks shooting at it. You could cover it in a thick layer of solid armor, but that would make it really heavy and hard to move around.

Instead, you could use spaced armor! Spaced armor is like having two layers of armor with a space in between them. That space absorbs the impact of the enemy tank's bullet, leaving the solid armor untouched. It's kind of like how if you were playing catch with a ball and you caught it with a pillow, the pillow would absorb the impact and you wouldn't feel the ball hitting you very hard.

This makes tanks with spaced armor really good at surviving attacks, because even if the enemy tank's bullet hits the tank, it won't necessarily penetrate all the way through. Think of it like a sandwich with two pieces of bread and some ham in the middle. If you bite into the sandwich, you might hit the ham but not the bread on the other side. That's kind of how spaced armor works!

So that's the basic idea behind spaced armor. It's a way to protect tanks without making them too heavy or bulky. Hope that makes sense to you, little one!
