ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Spite (sentiment)

Okay kiddo, let me explain what spite means. Have you ever been really mad or angry at someone and just wanted to do something mean to them to get back at them? That feeling or desire to be mean because we are angry is called spite. For example, if someone didn't invite you to their birthday party you might want to do something to get back at them like not talking to them the next day or saying something mean about them. That's what spiteful behavior looks like. But sometimes, being spiteful doesn't make us feel any better, and it can actually make things worse. It's important to try to communicate our feelings and work things out with the person we are mad at, rather than trying to hurt them just because we are angry.
