ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Standard of living

Alright kiddo, let me explain what standard of living means. It basically means how comfortable and happy people are in a particular place.

Now, when we look at the standard of living of a place, we look at lots of different things. For starters, we look at how much money people have. If people have lots of money, they can buy things that make them happy - like toys or clothes or food that they like.

But the standard of living isn't just about money. It's also about how healthy people are. If people are always sick or can't get the medicine they need, they won't be very happy. So, the standard of living will be lower for them.

Another thing we look at is how safe people feel. If people are always scared or worried about crime, they won't be very happy either. So, the standard of living will be lower for them too.

There are lots of other things that we look at too, like how good the schools are or how pretty the parks are or how clean the water is. All of these things add up to make the standard of living for a place.

So, when we talk about standard of living, we basically mean how comfortable and happy people are in a place. And we look at lots of different things to figure that out.
