ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stations of the Cross

Stations of the Cross are a way for people to remember and reflect on Jesus' suffering and death.

Imagine you are walking along a path following a special story of Jesus. On this path, you will see 14 different pictures or statues that show what happened to Jesus on his journey to the cross.

At each stop, someone will read a special story about what happened to Jesus at that part of his journey. You will hear about his trial, how he was whipped, and how he was made to carry a heavy cross.

Then, you will see special pictures or statues that show what happened next. You might see him falling down, or a woman wiping his face. You might see the people who were sad for him, or the people who were mean to him.

Each time you stop, you can say a special prayer or take a moment to think about what you just heard and saw. This helps you feel closer to Jesus and reminds us about the sacrifices he made for us.
