A stave church is like a big, fancy house that people in Norway used to worship in a long time ago. It's made out of big wooden beams called staves, and they're all put together to make a really sturdy building.
On the outside, a stave church might look like a castle, with tall spiky things on top and pretty carvings all over. But on the inside, it's usually very dark and cozy, with lots of candlelight and mythological paintings on the walls.
People used to go to stave churches to pray, sing songs, and learn about the stories of their gods and heroes. Nowadays, there aren't many stave churches left, but some have been turned into museums so that people can still visit and learn about this important part of Norwegian history.
