ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

StegFS

Okay kiddo, have you ever played the game where you hide something from your friends and tell them to find it? That's kind of what stegfs is like. It's a way to hide files or messages inside other files so that no one knows they are there unless they know where and how to look.

Let's pretend you have a secret message that you want to send to your friend, but you don't want anyone else to be able to see it. You can use stegfs to hide that message inside a picture or a video that you share with your friend. To do this, a special program called stegfs is used.

The way that stegfs works is by taking your secret message and turning it into binary code, which is just a bunch of 0s and 1s. Then, it takes the picture or video that you want to hide the message in and adds the binary code to it. To someone who doesn't know what they're looking for, the picture or video will look exactly the same as it did before.

If your friend wants to read the secret message, they just need to use stegfs to extract it from the picture or video. The program will know exactly where to look and how to find the binary code that's hiding the message. It's kind of like a treasure hunt, but instead of looking for a physical object, you're looking for hidden information.

So, stegfs is basically a way to hide secret messages or files in plain sight, by mixing them into other files. It's like hiding one thing inside another thing, just like you might hide a toy inside a big box. And just like how only someone who knows the toy is there will find it, only someone who knows how to use stegfs can find the hidden information in a file.
