Stigler's law of eponymy

Stigler's law of eponymy is a law that says that many scientific discoveries or inventions are not named after the person who came up with them. This means that usually the person who is credited with inventing or discovering something isn't actually the one who did it. Instead, it is usually someone else who is credited with it. It is named after the economist and statistician George Stigler, who first described it in 1950. Think of it like this: usually it's someone who comes after the person who discovered something who gets all the credit and recognition.
