Still life

Okay kiddo, let me explain what still life means. You know how sometimes you see a picture or a painting of a bowl of fruit or some flowers or maybe even some toys on a table? That's called still life.

Still life is when an artist takes objects, arranges them in a certain way, and then draws or paints them. They can use all sorts of things for still life, like fruits, vegetables, flowers, books, toys, or even just ordinary objects like a pencil or a glass of water.

Sometimes artists will use still life to practice their skills, like making things look 3D or how to use shadows to create the illusion of depth. But other times, they just do it because it looks nice and they want to make a pretty picture.
