ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Straight ally

A straight ally is someone who is a good friend to people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ).

So let's imagine you have a friend named Ashley who is a lesbian. Ashley might feel sad or scared or alone because some people might not like her or be mean to her just because she loves girls. But when Ashley has a straight ally friend, that friend stands up for her and supports her! The straight ally friend knows that it's important to treat everyone kindly, no matter who they love. So the straight ally friend might tell other people not to be mean to Ashley or might just give her a big hug and say, "I support you!"

Being a straight ally is important because it helps people feel happy and safe. Everyone deserves to feel happy and safe, no matter who they love!
