Subversion

Subversion lets you create a copy of files or projects so you can work on them without changing the original files. It's like having your own personal copy of a project. When you're done making changes to your copy, you can send it back to the original and it will update the original project with your changes. This way, everyone who has their own copy of the project can get the same updated version without doing extra work.
