ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sedition

Okay kiddo, imagine you and your friends really like ice cream. You talk about it a lot and sometimes even try to convince other people to like it too. That's all okay, right?

Now imagine if you and your friends started to say mean things about people who don't like ice cream, and maybe you even said that they shouldn't have the right to not like ice cream. That is not okay.

Well, that's kinda what sedition is. It's when people speak or act in a way that promotes rebellion or resistance against the government or authority. It's like they're saying that they don't like the rules and they want to change them, even if it means breaking the law.

Sometimes, it's okay to disagree with the government or authority and to speak up about it. That's called free speech. But sedition is when the speech or actions go too far and could actually cause harm or damage to others. It's like saying that you don't want to eat broccoli anymore and that's fine, but saying that no one else should eat it either and trying to make them stop is not okay.

Does that make sense, little one?
