Sumgait pogrom

Okay, kiddo, so there was a really bad thing that happened in a place called Sumgait a long time ago. People there were being mean and hurting other people just because they were from a different group. This is called a pogrom.

Now, Sumgait is a city in a country called Azerbaijan, and at that time there were a lot of different groups of people living there, like Armenians and Azerbaijanis. They had different backgrounds and cultures, but they had been living together for a while.

But then, some of the Azerbaijanis started to be really angry at the Armenians for some reason. They said nasty things to them, hurt them, and vandalized their homes and businesses. It was very scary and unfair.

The police didn't do much to stop this, which made things even worse. It wasn't until later that the government stepped in and tried to help the people who had been hurt. But by then, a lot of damage had already been done.

So, Sumgait pogrom was a really sad and scary time when some people were mean and hurt other people just because they were different. It's important to remember that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness, no matter where they're from.
