ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sustainable procurement

Sustainable procurement is like choosing toys to play with in a way that helps take care of the world around us. Just like how we pick toys that are safe for us to play with, we need to make sure that the things we buy and use are not harmful to our planet.

When grown-ups buy things for their work or for their homes, they need to think about how those things were made and how they will be used. They have to try to find things that were made in a way that did not harm the environment or the people who made them. This is called sustainable procurement.

For example, when someone needs a new computer, they should try to buy one that uses less energy and has fewer harmful chemicals in it. This will help save power and protect the air and water from pollution. They could also check if the computer company is following fair labor practices, meaning they treat their workers with respect and don't take advantage of them.

By making sure that the things we buy are good for the environment and the people who make them, we can help keep our planet healthy and happy for a long time to come.
