ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Synod

A synod is kind of like a big meeting that the leaders of a church have to talk about important things that are happening in the church.

Imagine you are playing with your friends and you have a problem. Maybe one of your friends is not sharing their toys, or maybe someone is not being kind. Your parents might call a family meeting with all your siblings to talk about the problem and try to figure out a solution.

A synod is like that, but for the church. Bishops and other church leaders come together to talk about things that are happening in the church, and try to figure out how to make things better. They might talk about how to help people who are poor, or how to make sure that everyone in the church has what they need.

During a synod, the leaders will also talk about how to make sure everyone in the church follows the right teachings and beliefs. They might talk about how to make sure the church is teaching the right things about God, or how to help people understand the Bible better.

So, a synod is basically a big meeting where church leaders come together to talk about how to make things better in the church, and to make sure that everyone is following the right beliefs and teachings.
