ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tabor Light

Alright kiddo, let me explain to you about tabor light. You know that when it is night time, we need light to see around us. Just like that, people needed light when they went to the temple to pray.

Tabor is a sacred mountain in Israel where Jesus took three of his apostles to an event known as the Transfiguration. At the bottom of Mount Tabor is the church of the Transfiguration, which contains an oil lamp (also called a tabor light) that has been continuously burning since the 4th century AD. This small lamp is considered a miracle because it has not gone out in over 1,500 years.

The tabor light is a small oil lamp that is fueled by olive oil. The wick, which is made of cotton, soaks up the oil and burns slowly, generating a flame that can last for months without being extinguished.

People believe that this light is a symbol of God's presence and power. Pilgrims who visit the church often light candles from the tabor light to take home with them as a symbol of their faith.

So, in short, the tabor light is a small lamp that has been continuously burning for over 1,500 years and is a symbol of God's power and presence.
