Telephone switch

A telephone switch is like a traffic light for telephone calls. Just like the traffic light controls the movement of cars on the road, the telephone switch controls the movement of calls going through the telephone network.

When you pick up your phone and dial a number, your call travels through a series of wires and devices to reach its destination. One of those devices is the telephone switch. The switch checks to see if the person you are trying to call is available to talk. If they are, the switch connects your call to theirs and you can start talking.

If the person you are trying to call is not available, the switch will either send your call to their voicemail (if they have it) or give you a busy signal (if they are already on the phone).

Telephone switches are really important because they help keep all the calls in the network flowing smoothly. Without them, there could be chaos and confusion as everyone tries to call everyone else at the same time. So next time you make a call, remember to thank the telephone switch for helping you reach your destination!
