ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ten Commandments

The ten commandments are like a rulebook that God gave to people a really long time ago. Imagine you are playing a game, and the game has rules that you must follow, like not cheating or not hurting other players. In the same way, the ten commandments are rules that God gave to his people to live by.

There are ten rules in total, and they help people understand how to live a good life and how to love and respect God.

1. God First: The first rule says that we should put God first in our lives and worship only him.

2. No Idols: The second rule says that we should not worship anything or anyone except God.

3. No Bad Words: The third rule says that we should not use God’s name in a disrespectful way.

4. Keep the Sabbath Holy: The fourth rule says that we should take one day each week to rest and worship God.

5. Honor Your Parents: The fifth rule says that we should respect our parents and listen to them.

6. Don't Kill: The sixth rule says that we should not kill or hurt other people.

7. No Adultery: The seventh rule says that we should be faithful to our spouse and not cheat.

8. Don't Steal: The eighth rule says that we should not take things that do not belong to us.

9. No Lying: The ninth rule says that we should always tell the truth and not lie.

10. Don't Be Jealous: The final rule says that we should not be jealous of what other people have.

These rules help us to be kind, honest, and respectful to others, and to love and serve God with all our hearts.
