ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Territorial principle

Territorial principle means that a country has the right to create and enforce laws within its own borders. Think of it like your room at home - your parents make the rules for your room, and they apply only in that space. In the same way, a country makes the rules for things that happen within its borders, and those rules apply only to people and things within that country. So, if you live in one country but commit a crime in another country, you are subject to the laws of the country where the crime occurred, even though you are from a different country. This is because each country has the power to create and enforce its own laws within its own territory.
