Testing cosmetics on animals

Okay, imagine you have a toy set and you want to make sure that it doesn't break easily. So, you take some other toys and experiment with them. You hit them, drop them and shake them to see if they can endure it. Now, imagine cosmetic companies as grown-ups who make makeup products, and they want to make sure their products are safe for people to use. This is why they test the products on animals, like rabbits and mice.

Cosmetics companies apply creams, shampoos and other products on animals' skin, eyes and mouth to see if they cause any harm, such as rash, itching, irritation or redness. The animals aren't happy about this, but they can't tell the scientists how they feel and have no choice but to endure it. This can make them sad or even sick, just like when you get a shot at the doctor's office.

Many people don't think it's fair to treat animals this way just so humans can look pretty. It's also not always accurate because animals have different reactions to things than humans do, so testing on them doesn't necessarily mean a product is safe for people. This is why there is a big push to come up with new methods of testing that don't harm animals, such as cell cultures and computer simulations.

In summary, cosmetics companies test their products on animals to ensure they're safe for people to use. However, it's not always nice for the animals and new methods of testing are being developed to avoid the harm.
