ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

The dose makes the poison

Okay, kiddo, so you know how sometimes you really like candy, right? But if you eat too much candy, it can make you feel really sick and yucky. That's because too much of something that might be fun or tasty can actually be bad for your body.

Well, this idea applies to lots of things, not just candy. Even things that might be good for you can be bad if you have too much. This is what we mean when we say "the dose makes the poison." It means that something that might be safe or even helpful in small amounts can actually be harmful or dangerous if you have too much of it.

For example, Vitamin C is really good for your body and helps fight off sickness. But if you take way too much Vitamin C, it can upset your stomach and even cause diarrhea. The same goes for lots of medicines - they can be really helpful in the right amount, but too much can be really bad.

So it's important to be careful and pay attention to how much of something you're having, whether it's food, medicine, or anything else. Just because a little bit is good doesn't mean more is always better!
