Median lethal dose

Median lethal dose, also known as LD50, is a way to measure how poisonous or toxic something is. It tells us the amount of something that would be enough to make half of the people or animals tested sick or die. For example, if scientists put some killer bees in a room with 100 people, and 50 of the people got sick or died after one hour, the median lethal dose would be one bee per hour.
