Therm

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of the word "therm"? No? Well, a therm is like a special way that we measure how much gas we use to heat up things like our homes or our water.

You know how when you turn on the stove, you can see the fire burning and it gets really hot? Well, that fire is actually burning gas to create that heat. And every time you use the fire to cook your food, or to heat up water, or to warm up your home, you're using some of that gas.

Now, the gas company needs a way to measure how much gas you use, so they came up with this thing called a therm. It's kind of like a way to count how much gas you're using. So, for example, if you use your stove to cook dinner for an hour, you might use one therm of gas. If you take a nice warm shower for 15 minutes, you might use half a therm of gas.

The gas company will then send you a bill that tells you how many therms of gas you used that month, and you have to pay for all of them. So, it's important to try to be careful and not waste too much gas, because it can cost a lot of money!
