ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Thin film

Thin film is a very thin layer of material. It is so thin that it can be measured in nanometers (billionths of a meter!) or angstroms (hundred-millionths of a meter!) It can be used in many different things like making solar cells, optical coatings, and medical sensors. Thin film is different than just a flat surface because the material has a certain thickness. This thickness can affect how the material behaves. For example, you can use thin film to keep things shielded from heat or to reflect or transmit light in a certain way!
